June 11th. Charity event at Mather airport benefiting the Shriners. Inspected Mather site today (Fleig, Miller, Brown). Site is still in excellent condition. Discussed use permit, waivers, EVOC course take down and set up. EVOC has a class 7am Sunday morning so we need to reset their course Saturday evening.
Shriner’s will let us offer rides.
Riders will be given the opportunity to make a $20 donation.
Discussed possibility of placing a sticker on cars willing to give
Drifting event went well.
Rained most of day but all 81 pre-registered entrants turned out.
Practice event the following Sunday went well but again rained.
68 cars entered.
First 2 regular season event went well. 148 entrants on
Saturday, 130 entrants on Sunday. Five
of the people at the drifting event turned up as new drivers at these events.
We signed up a total of 11 new SCCA members that weekend.
Two things noted for event post mortem: Need longer grid lines for large
turnouts and need to put all 4 PA speakers out since they are very directional.
Also need to put patch cord for the CD player back into the trailer.
We couldn’t play music over the PA that weekend.
Bill purchased a very low power FM transmitter that we used
to transmit the PA output over FM radio. Worked
well last weekend. Entrants can
listen to event on car radios. Bill
also purchased 4 replacement batteries for the course two-way radios.
Corvette club hasn’t paid for trailer rental for last
year’s team challenge. Bill
brought up the subject at the last Corvette meeting but not get a clear answer.
Ken Yeo will bring the matter up again at the next Corvette Club meeting.
AAS has an event the weekend before the Team Challenge.
The weekend after the Team Challenge we have an event so it is imperative
that if Corvette Club uses the
trailer it needs to get to Stockton after their event.
Also, last year the trash cans were full and left in the trailer.
Trailer stunk when we opened it up the following week.
Need to make sure that trash cans are emptied and not put in the trailer
Round 3 will be 3, 2-lap runs.
Fleig and Miller event co-chairs.
Round 4 will return to the 4, single lap run format.
Discussed some cars being too loud.
Asked one competitor to take a look at their car.
Mather sheriff EVOC asked to provide timing equipment for
Saturday April 30th ‘motorcycle rodeo’ in Elk Grove.
This will strengthen our position for using Mather as a site.
Motion to allow use of timing equipment (Miller) (7 0 0)
Approved. Miller and Brown
will handle logistics.
Barry Spencer asked to use timing equipment in Lake Tahoe
the weekend before the Shriner’s event. Out
of concern of absolutely needing equipment available and in good working order
for the Shriner’s event we didn’t feel it was a good idea.
Moved to adjourn. (Approved.
Adjourned 10:04 pm).
